I had originally bought into the notion that vaccines, at least if correctly formulated and tested could net some benefits in disease prevention. I even asked for whatever recommended vaccines from my doctor prior to a first international trip, and, on one occasion decided to accept a flu shot to avoid the inconvenience of catching just one annual bout of a routine winter bug.
Of course, as a kid born in the 60’s, I never had any reason to doubt modern medicine as a miracle of science. And I never questioned any chance to avoid some bad bug with whatever of very few shots that were recommended.

Now in Hong Kong there are many that “trusted the science” and their government to take shots just for the rights to live out lives in a semi-normal fashion, inclusive of dining at restaurants and accompanying friends to movie theaters. I know of many cases of double-jabbed that are prohibited from seeing “Top Gun” at Hong Kong theaters since they’re not quadruple jabbed.
This betrayal lends to some skepticism, since they experienced the big lie of “just this, and we’ll let you resume with your life.”

The first chapters of Yuval Noah Hariri’s “Sapiens” are rich with a detailed and highly intriguing account of the origins of humanity. A gripping story of a more biologically driven mankind that, per Harari’s blending of research and speculation, preceded what he describes as a “cognitive revolution,” unravels some of the puzzle of our early interactions and even interbreeding with the Neanderthals that shared our world and our hunter gatherer lifestyle that Yuval appears to embrace as a more nostalgic and “sustainable” past.
